Bake with Lucie - August 2025

Hello everyone and happy August! I hope you are all having a wonderful summer so far and staying cool. We have had some very toasty days recently, haven’t we? Did you enjoy last month's recipes? If so I hope you had fun making them. This month I have three more deliciously seasonal recipes for you all.

The first one is my delicious homegrown blackberry and pear jam. The blackberries in my recipe are all homegrown so what could be more seasonal. The addition of pear takes this jam to a whole new level and by adding pears it means we are using two fruits that are perfectly ripe in season.

My second recipe this month is my rustic harvest fruit tart. We are again using four fruits that are in season, those being blueberries, blackberries, cherries and early seasoning apples. All these delicious fruits are paired with crisp, flaky, golden, buttery pastry and served with delicious cream. What more could you want? You’re right, clotted cream, ice cream and custard too. Go wild, have them all! Don’t worry though, we aren’t making puff pastry as it is simply too hot and let’s be honest, it takes far too long.

My third recipe for you this month is again using apples but this time we’ve gone savoury. It’s my beetroot and apple salad. Me and my mum love beetroot and this year we have grown candy cane stripy beetroot! Yes, you heard that right. They won’t be quite ready in time to make this salad for you all, but when they are, I will definitely be making it again.

I really hope you have a wonderful time making all of my recipes and I hope you have an even lovelier time eating them. See you all in September! Blimey, the autumn months will soon be upon us!

Hi, I’m Lucie and it’s so very lovely to meet you. I’m your food and cookery baker, maker and writer and I love creating recipes that are new, exciting, seasonal and made with home grown ingredients for you all. I am 23 years old and I live in Hampshire with my lovely mum and our beautiful cats.

During my childhood I was brought up around food as my mum was a cookery teacher, (now French teacher), for schools and as soon as I was able, I had a wooden spoon in my hands. Me and my mum have always been close and cooking with her is one of my favourite things. My dad was a very good cook too but he sadly passed away from dementia when I was 8 years old. I have 2 sisters but they weren’t too interested in cooking so me and mum would spend hours in the kitchen baking and creating together.

Still to this day me and mum spend a good few hours every week shopping for ingredients and then cooking delicious things together. I think time spent cooking as a family is really important, it is wonderful to simply spend time with the ones you love and for an opportunity to develop new skills. I am part Scottish and Italian so home cooked food is a massive part of my family.
