Water for your garden
Our top tips for providing water for wildlife, as well as making your water go further.
Alliums
Garlicky, grassy, with a hint of caramel, these belong to the pungent onion family including: onions, garlic, leeks, shallots, and spring onions.
Leafy Greens
Tender baby leaves or broad stemmed edible shoots, including: pea shoots, lettuce, spinach, kale, watercress and Swiss chard.
River lamprey
The river lamprey is a primitive, jawless fish, with a round, sucker-mouth which it uses to attach to other fish to feed from them. Adults live in the sea and return to freshwater to spawn.
Oyster drill
This is a predominantly subtidal species but can be found on the lowest parts of a sheltered rocky shore in summer.
House sparrow
The house sparrow is a familiar, streaky brown bird of towns, parks and gardens. Males sport a grey cap and black bib, the size of which indicates their status.
