A smelly companion
Onions, shallots, leeks and garlic are in the allium family. Many smell strongly, which makes them a great companion plant for carrots and parsnips – by growing these together you can deter both onion fly and carrot root fly.
Slugs and snails aren't keen on these tasty treats, either.
