Celebrate autumn's harvest

Grow and give thanks to nature

October is the month to celebrate home grown produce and autumn's great Harvest Festival. Delight in potatoes pulled straight from the earth, juicy tomatoes plucked from the plant and a beautiful array of squashes in all the colours of autumn. Whether you have tried growing your own fruit and veg for the first time this year or not, there are many ways to celebrate the season.

The Harvest Festival is a time to be grateful for the food we have, to feel the warmth of community and share the edible gifts from nature. There are often church services, special assemblies and food drives at schools, where children learn about the harvest and collect for those most in need by donating to a local food bank. Delicious homemade meals are the best way to celebrate with friends and family. But don't forget the wildlife, they feed on fruit, wild berries, nuts and seeds to help them survive the colder months.

Take action for wildlife and nature this autumn
