What do slugs and snails eat?

Gastropod Gastronomy

Slugs and snails are a member of the Gastropod species. They certainly do practice the art of choosing and eating good food. We’ve all been there when slugs and snails have eaten seedlings. They especially love young plants with fresh leaves that you have carefully nurtured indoors before planting out. Why wouldn’t they? They always cause more damage in wet weather than in dry.

Here’s a tip: avoid using plant food until your plants are bigger, that way they will grow more slowly and won’t taste as delicious and fresh when you first plant them out. Plant them out when they are big enough to cope with a few nibbles, especially when conditions are wet.

It’s also worth growing more than you need, so you can simply replace your lost plants with new ones you’ve been keeping to one side. What if the slugs and snails don’t eat all your plants? Well, then you can give your spares to friends and neighbours and encourage them to grow nature-friendly food, too!
